Equipment Relocation Malaysia: Laboratory, Medical and Plant Equipment

Laboratory instruments, imaging systems, compressors, transformers, tanks and racking all have to move when a facility does. Rapid Group plans that equipment as carefully as the production line, because it is usually what holds up the restart.

Equipment We Relocate

Every facility has equipment that never appears on a production line but still has to move when the site does. It tends to be the equipment nobody has a plan for, and it is often the equipment that holds up the restart.

  • Laboratory and testing equipment

Spectrometers, chromatography systems, environmental chambers, tensile testers, microscopes, balances and fume hoods. Most of it is calibrated, much of it is fragile in ways that are not obvious from the outside, and a lot of it needs recalibration after any move regardless of how carefully it travels.

  • Medical and imaging equipment

MRI and CT systems, X-ray units, ultrasound, patient monitoring, sterilisation equipment and laboratory analysers. Hospital work brings its own constraints: infection control, floor protection, restricted access hours, and lifts that were never designed for a two tonne gantry. Rapid Group has completed GE MRI installations as part of its medical equipment relocation work.

  • Plant room and utility equipment

Air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, air receivers, dust extraction units, boilers and pumps. This equipment usually has to be commissioned before anything else can run, which puts it at the front of the schedule rather than the back.

  • Electrical infrastructure

Transformers, switchgear, distribution panels and generator sets. Heavy for their footprint, sensitive to shock and moisture, and rarely straightforward to get through a door.

  • Tanks, vessels and silos

Awkward geometry, high centre of gravity, and frequently a residue or cleaning requirement before they can be lifted at all.

  • Racking, mezzanines and storage systems

Dismantled, moved and rebuilt. Often needed in place before anything else arrives, because materials have to go somewhere.

  • Office and IT infrastructure

Server racks, comms cabinets and secure storage, where the concern is continuity rather than tonnage.

If your item is a production machine, our machinery moving service covers it. Everything above belongs here.

What Makes Equipment Different From Production Machinery

A press is heavy and predictable. You know roughly where the weight sits, the lifting points are usually documented, and if you get it level it will run.

Equipment behaves less predictably, and heavy equipment moving is harder to plan as a result.

  • Weight sits where you would not guess

An imaging system carries most of its mass in the magnet or gantry, not in the housing, so a lift planned on overall dimensions will tip. Distribution panels look like empty cabinets and weigh several hundred kilograms.

  • Access is usually worse

Production machinery lives on a factory floor with roller shutter doors and a hardstanding outside. Laboratory and medical equipment lives inside buildings, up lifts, along corridors, through doorways that were sized for people. Plant room equipment lives in the tightest space the building has, because that is where nobody wanted to put anything else.

  • Shock damage is less visible

A damaged press announces itself. A spectrometer that took a knock in transit will pass a visual inspection and fail its first calibration a week later, once your team has already signed for it.

  • Sequencing matters more

Compressors and chillers have to be running before production equipment can be tested. Racking has to be up before stock arrives. When large equipment movers treat this kit as an afterthought, the restart slips, which is why our factory relocation projects schedule it first.

Handling Sensitive and Calibrated Equipment

Moving heavy equipment safely comes down to what happens before the lift and what happens after the drop.

  • Before the move

We record the existing setup in detail: settings, connections, levelling positions and alignment references, photographed before anything is disturbed. Where a manufacturer specifies transport locks, shipping brackets or fluid drainage, those go in the method statement. For anything under warranty or service contract we check whether the OEM needs to attend, because discovering that on the day is expensive.

  • During the move

Shock and vibration are managed through the packing rather than through careful driving. Sensitive items travel in purpose built cases with internal cushioning and bracing, and our wooden crating team builds those to the item rather than to a standard size. Air ride transport is used where the item warrants it. Inside buildings the method is usually air skates or roller skidding, because both spread the load instead of concentrating it on wheels, which matters on a hospital floor or a raised lab floor.

  • Protecting the building

Floor protection, wall and door frame protection, and agreed routes. On hospital and laboratory sites this is not optional, and it is frequently the part of the scope a general mover leaves out. Rapid Group has delivered floor protection work on government premises.

  • After the move

Equipment is positioned, levelled and reconnected where that sits in scope, then handed over against an agreed acceptance test. Calibration and validation are normally carried out by your own team or the OEM, and we plan the schedule so they are on site when the equipment is ready rather than three days later.

Equipment heading overseas is prepared by the same team, and our export packing service covers the detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as equipment relocation rather than machinery moving? +
Equipment relocation covers laboratory instruments, medical and imaging systems, plant room equipment such as compressors and chillers, transformers and switchgear, tanks, racking and IT infrastructure. Machinery moving covers production machines such as CNC centres, injection moulding machines and presses. Rapid Group handles both, and most factory projects involve both.
Can you move hospital and medical imaging equipment? +
Yes. We handle MRI, CT, X-ray and other imaging systems, including the floor protection, access control and out of hours scheduling that hospital sites require. Our completed work includes GE MRI installations.
Do you recalibrate laboratory equipment after the move? +
Calibration and validation are carried out by your own team or by the equipment manufacturer. We plan the move schedule around their attendance so the equipment is positioned, levelled and connected when they arrive.
How do you protect sensitive equipment during transport? +
Items are packed in cases built to their dimensions with internal cushioning and bracing, so movement inside the case is eliminated. Inside buildings we use air skates or roller skidding to spread the load across the floor. Existing settings and connections are photographed before anything is disturbed.
Can you move plant room equipment while the facility is still operating? +
In most cases yes, though it depends on whether the equipment is providing services to the rest of the site. Compressors, chillers and extraction units are usually sequenced first in a relocation so they can be commissioned before production equipment is tested.
Do you handle equipment being shipped overseas? +
Yes. Equipment for export is prepared by the same team using vacuum and moisture barrier packing and ISPM 15 compliant crating, with the detail covered on our export packing service page.
